CROATIA JOINS THE SCHENGEN AREA

Croatia joins the Schengen area as of January 2023.

EU countries voted on Thursday, the 8th of December 2022, on admitting Croatia into the Schengen Zone.

All 26 Schengen member states welcomed Croatia into Europe’s passport-free travel zone, and the decision will take effect on the 1st of January, 2023.

The Schengen area comprises 26 countries, 22 EU states: Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

Croatia will continue to use its currency, the Kuna, until January 2023, when it will start using the euro as its official currency.
